About
Stretching 134 km across India and Tibet, Pangong Tso is one of the most breathtaking high-altitude lakes on Earth. Its waters shift through impossible shades of blue, turquoise, and emerald against a stark, barren mountain backdrop.
Pangong Tso is a 134 km long endorheic lake situated at 4,350 meters in the Himalayas. About 60% of the lake lies in Tibet. Its saline waters are remarkable for their constantly shifting colors - from azure to deep blue to turquoise to emerald green - caused by the play of sunlight and the mineral content of the water.
The lake gained worldwide fame as the backdrop of the Bollywood film '3 Idiots'. Despite the extreme cold and remoteness, visitors are drawn here by the otherworldly beauty of the landscape. The journey from Leh crosses Chang La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world.
