About
Hidden beyond the mighty Khardung La pass, Nubra Valley is a surreal world of sand dunes, high-altitude oases, and ancient trade routes. Once a stop on the Silk Road, it now offers one of India's most unique and otherworldly travel experiences.
Nubra Valley, once part of the ancient Silk Road, lies at the confluence of the Shyok and Nubra rivers. To reach it, you must cross Khardung La, one of the world's highest motorable passes at 5,359 meters. The reward is a landscape that feels like another planet.
The valley is famous for its cold desert sand dunes at Hunder, where you can ride rare double-humped Bactrian camels - descendants of pack animals from the Silk Road era. The 14th-century Diskit Monastery overlooks the valley with a towering 32-meter Maitreya Buddha statue.
