About
At 2,650 meters, Gulmarg is a paradise for all seasons. In winter, it transforms into India's premier ski resort with deep powder snow. In summer, its rolling meadows burst with wildflowers against a backdrop of the Affarwat Peak.
Originally called 'Gaurimarg' by shepherds, Gulmarg was renamed the 'Meadow of Flowers' by Sultan Yusuf Shah in the 16th century. The British developed it as a hill station in the 1800s, building one of the world's highest golf courses here.
Today, Gulmarg is best known for its two-phase Gondola ride, which takes visitors to nearly 4,000 meters for spectacular views of Nanga Parbat and the entire Kashmir Valley. In winter, it becomes a world-class ski destination with some of the deepest powder snow in Asia.
Highlights
