Starting from Sonamarg, the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek takes you through a chain of seven magnificent alpine lakes - Vishansar, Krishansar, Gadsar, Satsar, Gangabal, and Nundkol. Each lake has its own distinct color and setting, from turquoise to deep blue to emerald green.
The trek crosses multiple high passes above 4,000 meters, offering panoramic views of the Harmukh range and the greater Himalayas. The meadows along the way burst with wildflowers in summer, and you may spot Himalayan brown bears, marmots, and various alpine birds.
